Spoon Man

Becky and I were very excited (and a little shocked) to learn that Benjamin has been feeding himself at Daycare with a spoon. He is an adamant finger-food guy and only likes to eat if he can feed himself. When we’ve tried to give him yogurt or something from a utensil, he turns away with a defiant “Ain’t gonna happen” look on his face.

So, on the sheets that Benjamin gets sent home with from daycare that details his daily activities, we noticed that he ate applesauce at lunch. Putting two-and-two together, finally, we asked his teachers how they fed it to him since he didn’t like to be spoon fed at home. Well, to our surprise, they let us know that Benjamin has been spoon feeding himself for quite some time now.

It is amazing to us how fast our son continues to grow and learn. We know he’s going to be a big boy when he grows up, and that he’s learning by leaps and bounds right now, but as far as mom and dad are concerned, we’d like to keep our little guy around as long as possible.

Let's Get Ready to Blog

Welcome to the Cole Family Blog. Yes, yes, I know - it's about time! With all the craziness around two working parents, maintaining a house, and raising a family, it has been tough for us to try and fit this into our schedules.

But Becky and I both realize how fun and interesting a family blog can be. One of the best things we hope to do is create a detailed history for Benjamin to look back on and read about when he gets older. People our age tend to have some Polaroids and great stories from Mom and Dad about growing up, but in this day and age, how cool would it be to have it all on a blog.

So, here we go. We're going to try and start a new habit of posting here often and adding lots of pictures. We may even blog about sum exciting stuff that has happened in the past, like Benjamin's 1-year birthday party or our trip to Disney World. Stay tuned.

D-Day for Benjamin

9/5/2008 - Update - This post was from our previous attempt to start a blog, way back in November of 2007. We were thinking of deleting it, but it is such a great picture of Benjamin, we decided to leave it in.

Yesterday was Benjamin's first day of Daycare. Things went pretty well and everyone at the center was very nice. As expected, it was hard for mom and dad to leave little Benjamin with what are really strangers, but the staff was understanding of what is probably a pretty standard "First Day" routine for new parents (all the questions, not wanting to leave, etc).

The day was a short one for Benjamin since he was brought in late and picked up early - figured we break him in easy to his new home away from home. He seemed to do fine and even had a pretty good night back at home with the folks.

Here's hoping for more good days than bad at daycare.
